Last year's British Superbike Championship was a real nail-biter as Ryuichi Kiyonari, Leon Haslam and Gregorio Lavilla duked it out for the UKs top two-wheeled title.
The Japanese rider finally captured the coveted crown from his Ducati rivals in the final round and he'll be gunning for back-to-back championships with further victories at Silverstone, voted the UK's favourite superbike venue in 2005.
Kiyonari continues with the factory backed HM Plant Honda team and now has the upcoming teenage Ulster rider Jonathan Rea as his new team-mate. Rea's graduation has prompted a move for Karl Harris the former triple British Supersport Champion has signed for Hydrex Honda. Another favourite Shane Shakey Byrne will also be riding Honda in 2007, having signed to head up the Stobart Motorsport challenge for honours. His departure from Suzuki, together with that of James Haydon, means the Rizla squad has a blend of youth and experience with Cal Crutchlow and the experienced Chris Walker. The former is the reigning Supersport Champion the latter a 2006 race winner in the World Superbike Championship and four times previously the runner-up in the domestic title chase.
