Steve emailed to say Happy New Year to you all!
Who knows what 2011 will bring? More unpredictability I'm sure!
For the first time in a few years I didn't do a September GP holiday this time, which apart from meaning a long gap from my last trip (Hockenheim in July) to my next one, also meant the absence of a September poem.
To rectify that I have now written a new poem to round off 2010, which I enclose here.
Best regards
Steve
FIVE STAR BATTLE (2010: THE SEQUEL)
A season of countless changes in rules
An enticing mix of new and old schools
Schumi's return representing tradition
But the young guns refusing to submit their position
A new points system, 25 for a win
Seemed strange and confusing, at least to begin
No refuelling, no heavy hose to drop
Tyre's and repairs the only reasons to stop
Former drivers acting as penalty judges
Picking up on incidents, accidents and grudges
BBC pundits analyzing each mistake
In front of the garages at the side of big Jake
Opinions galore to attack and defend
While Eddie thinks everyone is his "old friend"
Controversies? Oh yes, of course there were plenty
And three new teams to expand the entry
A motor industry hit by recession
The Bahrain opener was just a procession
But races to follow were anything but dull
Qualifying dominated by the flying Red Bull
Though race days were more evenly spaced out
And five drivers emerged with a genuine shout
Jenson's consistency gained an early lead
While Lewis went joyriding at great speed
Mark Webber won in Spain and in Monaco
But in Turkey had a coming together blow
With his team-mate, then the tension grew
When he thought his new name was "number two"
"Not so", said Christian, "it's an equal game"
But things at Ferrari were not the same
At Hockenheim, Fernando went easily through
Move over Felipe, "he's faster than you!"
Lewis won Spa to regain the lead
Sebastian continued to show his speed
But couldn't quite get the points on the board
As Alonso delighted the Monza horde
Victory at Korea's half-finished track
Meant the red tide was hard to hold back
But all was not over, the job wasn't done
As it climaxed in the desert sun
Seb was now showing all his class
And Fernando, he just couldn't pass
Mr Petrov, despite shaking his fist
Caught up in a yellow mist
Red Bull had both titles after all their trying
The youngest champ left speechless and crying
Bringing the season's curtain down
As Master Vettel wore the crown
28/12/2008
Hi all, Well, I just had to write a poem about the events in Brazil, so here it is:
The Penultimate Corner
From March until November
The Formula One season goes
With triumphs and disappointments
Lots of ebbs and flows
But this year of 2008
Saw a thrilling endgame
t was at the penultimate corner
That the final drama came
Torrential rain brought wet weather races
At Monaco, Monza and Spa
At Silverstone it poured down all day
On each pirouetting car
Then just when we thought it was over
And we knew who was championship first
The black clouds gathered for one more time
In a big Brazilian burst
So little to choose, who would be
A champion or a near-miss?
As Felipe produced a home masterclass
It all came down to this
Could Lewis hold off Master Vettel
For the one more point he needed?
No, he couldn't! So it seemed he'd lost
"Rain harder!", the commentators pleaded
Then with just two corners left
And no miles left on the clock
Came the final twist, like a whodunit story
With the suspicious Mr Glock
"I'm innocent", replied Timo
"My dry tyre's just packed in
If I'd have tried any harder
I'd have gone into a spin"
The outcome was Lewis was champion
Youngest ever, true to say
The media gathered, but then his dad
Escorted him away
As the champagne flowed on the podium
With Ferrari the winning team
Lewis was left to contemplate
The fulfillment of his dream
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!!
Steve
