About the Event

The North American country of Mexico stretches between the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. It's a nation rich in history, tradition, culture, and natural beauty. Mexico's capital is both the oldest capital city in the Americas and the only one founded by Amerindians (Native Americans) outside of Quito.

The city was originally built by the Aztec's in 1325 as Tenochtitlan, it was destroyed in the 1521 siege by the Spanish. In 1524, the municipality of Mexico City was established, in 1585 it was officially known as Ciudad de Mèxico (Mexico City) and part of the Spanish colonial empire. After independence from Spain was achieved, the Federal District was created in 1824.
