About the British Truck Racing Championship

The British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) is one of the best-loved, most coveted motor racing championships not only in the United Kingdom, but around the world.

Pitting heavyweight behemoths that weigh more than five tonnes and producing in excess of 1,200bhp against each other, its no wonder that the championship has been a long-standing success.

The series’ roots were forged in the United States of America in the late 1970s and just a few years later – 1984 to be correct – Truck Racing hit British shores with the inaugural event being held at Donington Park.

Since then, the championship has continuously grown in stature with global manufacturers such as DAF, MAN, Iveco, Volvo and Mercedes all being represented along the way.

For a long time, the championship has been split into two classes; Division 1 and Division 2. Both classes race at the same time, with a capacity entry list of 20 trucks often being fulfilled every year.

Division 1 is the series’ premier class and features the more advanced machines, all of which are fitted with bespoke braking and suspension systems, as well as producing more power.

Division 2 meanwhile is likened towards more production-based machines that are found pounding the roads every day; with modification restrictions at a premium for those that are competing.

In this modern era of the championship, seven events make up the schedule with a total of 34 races taking place over the course of the season. Six of those events take place in the United Kingdom, with the other seeing the series head to France to take centre stage at Le Mans.
